BEE Affidavit Support for Tenders, Supplier Onboarding and Compliance
A BEE affidavit, also called a B-BBEE affidavit, is often needed when your business must prove its B-BBEE status for tenders, supplier registration, client onboarding, CSD profiles or compliance requests. Many small businesses do not need a full B-BBEE verification certificate, but the correct route depends on your turnover, ownership, business category and sometimes the sector code that applies to your industry.
Brendmo helps businesses prepare for the correct affidavit route by first confirming whether the business falls under the EME or QSE category. Under the general codes, CIPC says EMEs are businesses with annual turnover of R10 million or less, while the amended Codes of Good Practice describe QSEs as entities with annual total revenue between R10 million and R50 million.
The important part is not just filling in a template. A B-BBEE affidavit is a sworn declaration, so the information must be accurate, supportable and signed correctly. CIPC specifically warns that accuracy is crucial and that false shareholder information is a criminal offence.
We assist by helping you understand which affidavit applies, what information must be included, and what details must be checked before the affidavit is signed and commissioned. This is especially useful if you are submitting the affidavit for a tender or supplier onboarding process where mistakes can cause rejection or delays.
A BEE affidavit is generally valid for 12 months from the date it is signed by the Commissioner of Oaths, so it also needs to be renewed when it expires. Official EME affidavit templates state that the sworn affidavit is valid for 12 months from the date signed by the commissioner.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a BEE affidavit?
A BEE affidavit, more formally called a B-BBEE sworn affidavit, is a signed and commissioned declaration confirming a business’s B-BBEE status based on turnover and ownership information. It is commonly used by qualifying EMEs and certain QSEs instead of a full B-BBEE verification certificate. Once the affidavit is signed and stamped by a Commissioner of Oaths, it can be used as proof of B-BBEE status where accepted.
Is a BEE affidavit the same as a BEE certificate?
Not always. Many clients use the terms loosely, but a BEE affidavit is a sworn declaration, while a B-BBEE certificate may refer to a CIPC-issued certificate for qualifying EMEs or a formal verification certificate from an accredited verification agency. CIPC says it issues B-BBEE certificates electronically for EMEs with annual turnover of R10 million or less, at no cost.
Who qualifies for an EME BEE affidavit?
Under the general codes, an EME is usually a business with annual turnover of R10 million or less. These businesses can often use a sworn affidavit or CIPC B-BBEE certificate instead of going through a full verification process. Some sector codes may have different thresholds, so it is always important to check whether a sector-specific rule applies.
Who qualifies for a QSE BEE affidavit?
Under the general codes, a QSE is generally a business with annual total revenue between R10 million and R50 million. The amended Codes of Good Practice state that a black-owned QSE may obtain a sworn affidavit annually confirming annual total revenue and level of black ownership.
Can every business under R50 million use a BEE affidavit?
No. This is one of the biggest misunderstandings. EMEs and certain black-owned QSEs may use affidavit routes under the relevant rules, but not every business under R50 million automatically qualifies for the same affidavit treatment. Some QSEs and larger/generic entities may need formal B-BBEE verification instead.
What information is needed for a BEE affidavit?
We usually need your business name, registration details, turnover range, ownership structure, black ownership percentage, black woman ownership where applicable, and the purpose of the affidavit. The affidavit must reflect accurate information, especially around ownership and turnover. If the affidavit is being used for a tender or supplier onboarding process, it is also helpful to send the exact requirements you were given.
How long is a BEE affidavit valid?
A BEE affidavit is generally valid for 12 months from the date it is signed by the Commissioner of Oaths. After it expires, a new affidavit or updated B-BBEE proof will usually be required. This is important for tenders and supplier onboarding because expired BEE documents are commonly rejected.
Why would a BEE affidavit be rejected?
A BEE affidavit may be rejected if it is expired, not properly signed or stamped, completed on the wrong template, missing ownership information, inconsistent with company records, or used where a formal B-BBEE certificate is required. Rejection can also happen if the receiving institution applies sector-specific requirements. We help you check the basics before you submit the affidavit.
Can I use a BEE affidavit for tenders?
Yes, in many cases a valid BEE affidavit can be used for tenders where the business qualifies and the tender requirements accept it. However, tenders may still ask for other documents such as CSD registration, tax compliance status, COID, CIDB or industry-specific compliance documents. We can help you understand whether your affidavit is enough or whether you need a broader compliance pack.
Do you help clients across South Africa?
Yes — we assist clients across South Africa, including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and other areas. Most of the process can be handled remotely through calls, email, WhatsApp and online document sharing. You do not need to be in the same city for us to help with your BEE affidavit.
